The first saxophone was made in Adolphe Sax's workshop in 1842. The new instrument quickly found its place in military bands, and from the 1920s onwards it enjoyed a brilliant career in jazz and other popular music genres. Although it has been used by many famous composers on one occasion or another - especially in works for large orchestras - the saxophone has only recently gained a place in classical music, especially chamber music. This also means that the instrument has not yet become "overused", that it has no fossilised identity, and that it has many qualities and potentialities that have not yet been exploited. Levente Puskás and Judit Váradi's concert will give an account of how today's Hungarian composers think about these possibilities.
