Compass - Compositions by Balázs Horváth | SZIMA Inaugural lecture

13 September 2025 4:00 pm
Budapest Music Center - Library
1093 Budapest, Mátyás utca 8.

Creating a composition is usually a lengthy process. It may take only two days to compose a piece, but once the idea has been conceived and the piece has taken shape, it often takes much longer to build. In hindsight, discovering the interconnectedness of the work can be as exciting for the composer as it is for the audience.
In Balázs Horváth's composer's evening, there is a long but traceable process behind most of the works performed. On this occasion, the composer will not only briefly illuminate the background history of the works, but will also present some compositions from several perspectives, almost analytically, as the evening will also be Horváth's inaugural lecture at the Széchenyi Academy of Literature and Arts.
The concert will also include several works that have never been performed in Budapest or in Hungary before. The premiere of Arianna, a piece that has been described as a “post-neoclassical mono-cantata”, will also take place during the concert.
