"For almost as long as mankind has been singing, the majority of lyrical music has been about love. In fact, if you look closely, when it comes to non-sacramental songs, love is almost always present in one way or another, even if often in a figurative sense. But how is love expressed in instrumental music? If it is not expressed in the lyrics, what is it expressed in? And why do we agree that certain melodies and sounds are clearly related to love? These are the questions that Danubia's concert will seek to answer, as instruments fall in love. Mozart's overture presents love more from the side of intrigue, as in the opera that follows the overture, two men test the fidelity of their sweethearts as a joke. Liszt's Love Dream was originally a song, made famous as a piano piece, a love that flares up and endures through all the storms, and one that many will recognise in music. The story of Romeo and Juliet has inspired many in music literature. Tchaikovsky has written a symphonic work that conjures up a veritable action film on our imaginary movie screen. The overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla proclaims the triumph of love fulfilled. Shostakovich's waltz is classical music, jazz and a hit, with a touch of melancholy, yearning for something or someone. The Love Story music of Francis Lai and Henry Mancini is even more melancholic and leads through to the work of Rezső Ott, who has summarised the story of love songs and love songs in a single composition.
We recommend this concert to all those who, on this late autumn evening, do not want to dwell on the darkness, cold, passing and winter that are coming soon, but would rather be in love for an evening."
