Hámori Máté

Máté Hámori was born in Budapest in 1983. His professional musical training begun at the Béla Bartók Musical High School, Budapest, where he attended the lessons of Mr. Miklós Kocsár at the composition faculty. At the age of 18 he was admitted to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest, where he bacame a member of Mr. Tamás Gál’s conducting class.
In 2003 Máté Hámori has founded the Teatro di Musica chamber orchestra. In the first two years of it’s existence the orchestra gave several concerts and two concert series, where they’ve performed several new works written on the conductor’s request.
In 2005 Mr. Tamás Pál invited Máté Hámori to conduct the Savaria Symphony Orchestra for the first time. Since then, he was re-invited several times, and remained a welcomed guest at the orchestra. This orchestra also contributed at his diplom concert in 2006, where he performed the works of Elgar and Mozart, and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra. At the same year, he represented Hungary at the Mlada Praha festival in Prague, where he conducted the Prague Chamber Symphony Orchestra. Since 2006 he has conducted several hungarian orchestras as the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra, the Debrecen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Solti Chamber Orchestra, the Weiner-Szász Chamber Symphony, the Zugló Philharmonics, the Danubia Orchestra or the Pécs Sinfonietta.
The musical initiation of little children is a most important side of the conductor’s career. He has staged and performed more than two hundred times the operas of Mozart, Donizetti and Haydn for children all over Hungary. Besides this highly successful project, he gives educational lectures for the smallest, where he aims to arouse the interest of his young audience in the music of Mozart, Schubert or Bartók.
Since 2007 Máté Hámori has been invited to the finals of two international conducting competitions of high esteem: in 2007 the Grzegorz Fitelberg Competition in Katowice, and in 2008 the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition in London.
Since 2009 Máté Hámori works as an assistant conductor with maestro Tamás Vásáry, and helps his work with the Zoltán Kodály World Youth Orchestra. Also in this year he was appointed as conductor of the Debrecen University Orchestra. As a devoted opera conductor, in December 2010 Máté Hámori celebrates the 200th birthday of Ferenc Erkel, the great hungarian opera composer with the gala performance of the newly revised opera “Bánk Bán”, and for the 2010/2011 season he is planning a grand festival in the honour of Ferenc Liszt, with his orchestra in Debrecen.
Since 2013 he is the artistic director of Danubia Orchestra Óbuda.
His work was honored in 2017 with the Gold Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic (Civilian) and in 2019 with the Ferenc Liszt Prize.
