Ott Rezső
Composer
Rezső Ott was born on 31 December 1981 in Budapest. He studied bassoon at the Liszt Academy of Music (2005) and composition (2011) under János Vajda, but his professors Gyula Fekete, György Orbán and György Serei were also influential.
In 2008, his piece "Saxon" (Sonata for alto saxophone and piano) won 2nd prize and the Audience Prize at the Youth Contemporary Music Evenings house competition. His piece "Suscipe" also won second prize in the choral competition of the "Society of Jesus" (Hungarian Community of Jesuits) in spring 2009.
He wrote his first major orchestral piece in 2011 for his graduation concert, the Horn Concerto, performed by János Benyus and the Symphony Orchestra of the Liszt Academy conducted by György Serei. In the same year, his piece for woodwind quartet "Quartetto di Primavera" won 2nd prize at the István Vántus Contemporary Music Days. In 2012, his horn concerto was performed by the Dohnányi Symphony Orchestra of Budafok, and the same ensemble premiered his symphonic poem "elle éternelle" in 2014.
As a well known artist in Hungary, he has participated in many important productions as composer, arranger, orchestrator and/or musical director. He has had a long and productive career with several major orchestras and chamber orchestras, most notably the Dohnányi Symphony Orchestra of Budafok and the Danubia Symphony Orchestra of Óbuda, where he is increasingly regarded as a composer in residence.
In the spring of 2018, "An die verstorbene Verliebte" won first prize at the Beethoven Buda Festival Composition Competition. In the same year, he was musical director and arranger of a joint concert of Quimby, one of the strongest bands in Hungarian popular music, and the Óbuda Symphony Orchestra. Also in 2018, he wrote additional music for the multiple award-winning film "Tiny Tales".
In 2020, his piece "Te Deum anno 2020" was among the winning entries in the music competition of the Palace of Arts (MüPa) in the category "vocal symphony".
In 2021, several of his large-scale pieces were premiered: in March the ensemble piece "Con Quijada" performed by the Danubia Orchestra Óbuda, in July the "Concerto No.2. I.m.B." by the St. Stephen's Philharmonic Orchestra and In Medias Brass, and in December the "Sleeping Santa Claus" fairy tale - musical fairy tale and the complete CD "The Golden Winged Angel", also performed by the Danubia Orchestra Óbuda.
