He graduated from the jazz department of the Béla Bartók Conservatory as a student of Gyula Kovács. His first significant successes can be associated with the No-Spa quintet but in the meantime he performed with Szakcsi, Babos and Aladár Pege. He is a founding member of György Vukán's Creative Art Ensemble Trio.
With his own trio and quintet he recorded the album Fly Bird in 1995, then came the CD My New Way in 1997, and Always that Moment in 2000 released by BMC Records. Since 2000 he has been leading the Elemér Balázs Group and their debut album appeared in 2002 entitled Around the world. After their second release Our Worlds Beyond (2003) the band saw some changeovers in the line-up, and the new septet recorded Refractions of Sound (2004). Famous artists, with whom Elemér Balázs has played together: Tony Scott, Anette Lowman, Ferenc Schnetberger, Wayne Brassel, James Williams, Tony Lakatos, Stephen Gud, Art Farmer.
