DANCING FIGURE
(Táncalak)
Hungarian music film, 2002, 68 min. - In Hungarian
director, script writer, cinematographer: Ferenc Grunwalsky
music: György Kurtág Jr.
editor: Katalin Kabdebó
producer: András Ozorai
Featuring:
Andrea Ladányi, dancer
The film's protagonist, the journey of the "reviving body": a series of visions and trials. Andrea Ladányi's movement, a mixture of beauty, sport, acrobatics, classical and modern dance skills. Her dance form is a phenomenon that evokes classical Greek statues and is at the same time contemporary and extraterrestrial. Like the movement of the planets "is nothing more than a ceaseless movement and music of different sounds that progresses to set milestones alongside the immeasurable river of time." (Kepler)
The camera's approach, transmission technique, attention stubbornly and persistently pays attention to the music, the dancer's movement and shape, the existence of his body. It builds exclusively on the image, the light, the music, the dance, and the images of human memory. István Nádler's lines redraw it, his brushstrokes cross the film frames. Apart from Ottó Orbán's poem, there is no text in it.
The film is a series of dance, music and memories, in which photographs, dance and film imagery blend with 20th century documents.
The screening will be introduced by film- and music critic László Kolozsi (in Hungarian).
Guest: György Kurtág Jr., composer
