ON THE WAY - COMPOSITIONS BY ANDRÁS EMSZT
20 April 2024. 6:00 pm
Budapest Music Center - Library
1093 Budapest, Mátyás utca 8.
András Emszt's composer's evening will feature pieces written for small ensembles in the last few years. In addition to chamber works, two solo piano pieces by American composers will be performed by András Emszt. The works of John Adams, a leading figure in contemporary music and Judd Greenstein, a prominent representative of the young generation of American composers, will be organically integrated into the evening's program. In addition to the instrumental duos Flood, Nocturne and B lines, there will be a vocal work, Todesfuge, based on a poem by Paul Celan, composed for soprano voice and looper pedal. The last composition on the program will be a chamber orchestra work entitled Albaicín.
András Emszt seeks to connect with the present in the broad musical palette of the 21st century. In his works he uses modern compositional techniques, while at the same time he's trying to present a colourful musical world that is easy for the audience to process. He achieves it often by using elements of minimalism, and influences of Hungarian music and the Hungarian school as well. His repertoire ranges from solo, choral and chamber works to large orchestral pieces.
The concert is supported by the National Cultural Fund. The composer is a recipient of an artistic scholarship from the Municipality of Budafok-Tétény, Budapest XXII. district.
