(Prä)modern+ concerts: Piano Evening by Szirtes Máté

24 May 2025, 06:00 pm.
FUGA Budapest Center of Architecture
1052 Budapest, Petőfi Sándor utca 5.

"The evening's programme evokes five different worlds of five composers, yet reveals deep musical connections between them. The concert opens with Alexander Scriabin's Piano Sonata No. 5, one of the composer's densest and most ecstatic works, which pushes the boundaries of tonality and leads the listener towards a transcendent musical experience. This is followed by Béla Bartók's Dance Suite, originally written for orchestra but which retains its characteristic rhythms and folk music inspiration - the essence of Bartók's style - when performed on the piano.

The second half of the concert features György Ligeti's Arc-en-ciel, a floating piece rich in harmony and colour that brings to life the most subtle vibrations of the piano. A special event of the evening is the performance of Dániel Dinyés' Sleep, Prospero!, which reveals deep inner landscapes with its clarity and gentle lyricism. The concert will close with the world premiere of Csanád Kedves' Distância Próxima, a unique musical construction that juxtaposes layers of two "universes" that are independent yet occasionally meet. The work invites a simultaneous perception of parallel musical planes, its complexity and drama a fitting end to the evening." (Máté Szirtes)
