After being accepted to the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in 1965, she became pupil of Éva Kutrucz and graduated in 1970.
She debuted in the role of Fanchette (Mozart: The Marriage of Figaro) 1969 in the Hungarian State Opera House and from the next year she became soloist there. In 1973 she was awarded with first prize at the international competition in 's-Hertogenbosch, and next year at the Fauré Competition in Paris she won grand prize. From 1974 to 1977 she was member of the Munich Opera House where she primarily sang Mozart opera roles. She has taken part in several festivals in Vienna, Salzburg, London, Milan, New York, Glyndebourne, etc. She has performed with conductors such as Lovro von Matacic, Pierre Boulez, Claudio Abbado, Péter Eötvös and Bernard Haitink.
Her recordings have been acknowledged by many international awards. As a highly competent and dedicated interpreter of contemporary music she has presented many new Hungarian works winning considerable acclaim, especially with György Kurtág’s works. Both as concert singer and early music performer she has gained international reputation. She’s been holding master courses at the Bartók Seminar since 1995.

Adrienne Csengery was awarded with the Liszt Prize (1981), the title Merited Artist (1984), the Sándor Veress Prize (2001) and the title Excellent Artist (2008).
