György Lakatos graduated from the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in 1987. Since 1985 he has been the first bassoon player of the Hungarian State Opera House and the Orchestra of the Budapest Philharmonic Society. In 1987 he was named the Artist of the Year at the Opera House, and in the following year he won first prize at the Bassoon Competition of the Hungarian Radio. Between 1993 and 1997 he won the award of the Artisjus (Hungarian Bureau for the Protection of Authors´ Rights) for interpreting contemporary Hungarian compositions four times. In 1996 he was awarded the Liszt Prize, and the following year he received the Eötvös Scholarship in Paris. He has recorded several albums both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. He has given concrets and master worksops in almost every country of Europe, and has toured the United States and Israel as well.
