In 1970, he obtained his diploma from the news broadcasting faculty of the Electrical Engineering Department of the Budapest Technical University. He then joined Hungarian Radio, where he has worked to this day as a sound engineer. In 1975, he began working in the newly founded Electronic Music Studio � today known as the HEAR Studio. Over this period, he has worked with composers in the studio to produce over 300 electro-acoustic works and numerous recordings. Since it was established in 1991, István Horváth has been a member of the EAR Ensemble, under the direction of Miklós Sugár, producing electro-acoustic music. He also provides sound engineering at EAR Ensemble concerts. He has been the recipient of three Artisjus awards for his work with contemporary music. In 2001 he was given the Erkel Award for his work at the Studio.
