The Miskolc Symphony Orchestra, as the only professional full orchestra of this region is an ensemble possessing an outstanding tradition and it can be considered as the hostage of presence for the symphony music here. Its sphere of its operatio overreaches Miskolc and our county's boundaries. Having ample international ties and being a frequent character in the capital's concert-halls this orchestra often travels the country, too.
The main region off its activities is Miskolc and county Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén. On its seat the back of its tasks are the concerts for season ticket holders, series occasionally organized concerts and the summer concerts.

The performances of The Ticket for the Season (for 7 performances) , the Popular Tickets (for 5 performances), the Master Tickets (for 4 performances) are showed in the National Theater Miskolc. All the season Ticket Performances are always sold out.
The so called New Years Concert has been evoking a great interest in Miskolc for more than a decade, two successive performances of which turn out to be few.

The summer's open air concert series are among the most successful programs of the Miskolc Summer, bound to festive occasions.
International opera galas and occasionally organized concerts bound to festive occasions of Miskolc fill out the county seat`s program offer. The 25 to 26 adult concert has an audience of about 15000. More, besides Miskolc the orchestra gives about 30 youth concert on several settlements of the county, the audiences of which exceeds the 12000.

The artistic work based on domestic an international demands is being performed by an ensemble of 84 professional musicians, highly qualified musicians, graduated from college or from the Academy of Music.
The art director of the orchestra is director László Kovács, awarded with Liszt Prize, Bartók-Pásztory Prize, whose work has been acknowledged by city Miskolc with Pro Urbe Prize.
The repertoire of the ensemble is very rich, all musical styles and genre (symphonic music, opera, light opera, musical, film music, symphonic dance music) are represented from the baroque music to contemporary compositions.

The Miskolc Symphony Orchestra is a highly co-operative institute, its productions can be easily traveled, its genre flexibility enables us to correspond with demands of various audiences, its extended system of relationships enables us to invite excellent singers and instrument soloists.
Its operation requires a significant public relations activity, a high number of street bills (2 to 3 dozen) fly-sheets, program leaflets, multi-language brochures distributed occasionally also internationally propagate its activity. The orchestra is a frequent player in local and the country's press media and also the electronic media frequently broadcast its concerts or write about them.

In the case of a developing co-operation the interests of the sponsors are considered maximally in the public relations - by naming the occasional Season Tickets and occasionally organized Concerts, by readily co-operating in the organization of concerts by sponsors for their employees, stockholders or business partners, being able to correspond with the client's demand regarding the site, the genre and the time. For the sponsor's guests the orchestra provides entry tickets permanently - depending from agreement. The orchestra is ready to co-operate in preparing official duties - Cds, and cassettes for companies.

The presence of the symphonic orchestra and the activity of a symphonic orchestra is always a significant measure of the civil society's development in a region. The Miskolc Symphony Orchestra, having an about 100-years tradition and being active as a professional ensemble since 35 years, adds his share to the intellectual and cultural life of Northern Hungary every day. The Orchestra is an ambassador of the Hungarian culture also abroad, and it promotes the fame of this region continuously.

In 1993 the orchestra was awarded with Béla Bartók-Ditta Pásztory Prize.
