The Hungarian Radio Choir was formed in 1950. The principle choirmasters have been Endre Székely, Árpád Darázs, Zoltán Vásárhelyi, Cecília Vajda, Imre Csenki, Ferenc Sapszon and Péter Erdei. The repertoire of the Hungarian Radio Choir embraces all areas of the classical literature including opera and oratorio, as well as operettas and musicals. Classical and contemporary Hungarian composers have played a significant role in the choir's work. In 1985 the choir was awarded the Bartók-Pásztory Award. During its history, the Hungarian Radio Choir has worked with many great conductors, such as Antal Doráti, János Ferencsik, Lovro von Matacic, Kurt Masur, Paul Sacher, Peter Schreier, Eric Ericson, Yehudi Menuhin, Lamberto Gardelli, Tamás Vásáry, Giuseppe Patané and Marcello Viotti. In 2003-2004, the choir enjoyed great successes in Transylvania and Slovakia.
