New Paths - Concert of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra

Classics of the future and modern pieces from the past – this is one way of bringing together the unique worlds of four Hungarian composers connected by experimentation and the thrill of discovery. Patrik Oláh’s Fusion, which won the competition celebrating the 150th anniversary of the coming together of Buda and Pest in 2023, blends authentic Romani folklore with motifs from the classical repertoire. Exactly one hundred years earlier, Béla Bartók’s Dance Suite was performed to mark the city’s unification jubilee. László Dubrovay’s double concerto for violin and cello was composed for the Jávorkai brothers, who are sure to receive a warm welcome as they enter the stage this evening. The concert will conclude with the Háry János Suite, which also unifies deeply rooted traditions in Hungarian culture: Zoltán Kodály’s singspiel, composed a century ago, owes much to the folk-inspired trends of the Hungarian reform era.
