Pannon Philharmonic: Schumann under the magnifying glass
24 May 2025 06:00 pm.
Kodály Centre
7622 Pécs, Breuer Marcell sétány 4.
What is a piano concerto inspired by a great pianist like?
This evening will be full of poetic and underlying ideas. The composers talk about ideals, role models, poets and even their own secrets.
“Whether I am a poet, which one can never become, is for posterity to find out.” - wrote the adolescent Schumann in his diary. The two works by Schumann that frame the programme are a good guide to the decision of posterity: in the first, Schumann translated Byron's poem into music in such a way that Manfréd's suffering also reflected his own illness, and the second revolutionised the world of chamber music in such a way that Zsolt Hamar saw in it a symphonic work. And Péter Tóth's piano concerto is an impression of what Péter Tóth and József Balog talked about during a jury session.
The concert will be recorded by Bartók Radio and broadcast at a later date.
