Pannon Philharmonics | Kurtág 100

26 February 2026, 07:00 p.m.
Kodály Centre
7622 Pécs, Breuer Marcell sétány 4.

"Although György Kurtág is definitely one of the avant-garde composers, he is also a great expert and excellent interpreter of the classical masters. It is therefore fitting that he should celebrate his 100th birthday in the company of a great classical composer, Beethoven.

The evening will open with Dénes Várjon performing one of Beethoven's solo piano sonatas, Op. 27 No. 2. This will be followed by a work bearing the same number, but from Kurtág's oeuvre. Written for cello, piano and orchestra, the work reflects on Baroque traditions, exploits the possibilities of the instruments and highlights the achievements of Kurtág's era. The concert will close with one of Beethoven's most influential symphonies, the heroic Eroica. Celebrate with us!"
