NOMOS - COMPOSITIONS BY LŐRINC SZÉCSI

25 May 2024. 6:00 pm
Budapest Music Center - Library
1093 Budapest, Mátyás utca 8.

"In ancient Greek, nomos meant law, customs and melody. This ambiguity perfectly expresses an important characteristic of music, namely that it is based on old-new rules and tradition inherited in some form. In today's world, which is changing at dizzying speed, I feel that the greatest challenge as a composer is to find the nomos of my own music, the laws within which musical intuition can freely unfold.
Paradoxically, the call to us from every medium: "All is free, inhabit the infinite!" has a paralysing rather than liberating effect on the process of composition. Without frameworks, music - and man - falls apart, unable to find its feet. In the works performed in this concert, I was looking for these frameworks, inspired by ancient Greek music theory. The musical world of the resulting compositions is thus both old and new, rooted in tradition but expanding its horizons." (Lőrinc Szécsi)
