Valentin Magyar started playing the piano in his hometown, Balassagyarmat. In 2013 he won the Nyíregyháza National Piano Competition, then continued his studies in Budapest with Gábor Eckhardt. In 2015 he was admitted to the special talents class of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, where he graduated in 2024 with a Master's degree, taught by Dénes Várjon and Gábor Farkas. At the same time he studied at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin with Kirill Gerstein.
In 2020, he won the Yamaha Competition, then the HCC Piano Competition in New York. In 2021, he won 3rd place at the International Liszt Competition in Weimar (first prize was not awarded), and in the same year he was awarded the Junior Prima Prize. In 2022, he was awarded the Kocsis-Hauser Foundation's Zoltán Kocsis Prize, in 2023 the Gold Prize of the Vienna International Competition for Complex Music, the Concorde Prize for the most talented student of the Budapest Academy of Music and the Cziffra Festival Prize.
He performs regularly at home and abroad. In 2022, he was invited to perform as soloist at the jubilee concert of the Liszt Academy, where he played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 4 with great success. In 2023, he performed at the Liszt Academy, the Hungarian Radio, the Hungarian House of Music, gave a sonata recital with Kristóf Baráti at Kaposfest, played at the Liszt Festival in Gödöllő, Germany and Croatia, and made his first CD recording (Rachmaninov pieces).
In 2024, he made a highly successful debut in China and Brazil, performed a chamber music series at the Liszt Academy, gave a sonata recital with Kristoff Baráti in Serbia, and gave recitals in Romania, England and at home. His second recording is due in 2025.
