Harpsichord Sonatas with Violin Accompaniment in Paris - Leclair consort
10 February 2025. 6:00 pm
Budapest Music Center - Library
1093 Budapest, Mátyás utca 8.
In the second half of the 18th century, the harpsichord sonata with violin accompaniment became an increasingly popular genre. This concert will present a selection of these special and undeservedly underplayed works. At the heart of the concert are works by Jean-Frédéric Edelmann (1749-1794), a composer active in Paris and Strasbourg, whose work was praised by Haydn and Mozart. Two harpsichord pieces with violin and viola by Edelmann will be performed: a work from his 4 Divertissemens Op. 15 and his only surviving complete harpsichord concerto with two violins and viola (Op. 14). This special genre is practically a precursor of the piano quartet.
