Ad nos – Liszt & Judit Varga
26 April 2026, 07:30 a.m.
Müpa Budapest - Béla Bartók National Concert Hall
1095 Budapest, Komor Marcell u. 1.
One of the organ’s most promising young stars and the winner of last year’s St Albans International Organ Competition, the Jena-born Alexis Grizard steps up as the soloist for this concert promising two monumental compositions. Ferenc Liszt’s most extensive organ work is often referred to as “The Organ Sonata in B minor”. The chorale theme of the fantasy and fugue is borrowed from Ad nos, ad salutarem undam, part of a Meyerbeer opera. Following this Liszt piece, on this occasion heard in Marcel Dupré’s version with orchestral accompaniment, comes a world premiere: a work by Judit Varga commissioned by Müpa Budapest. Evoking the Icarus myth, Végtelen zuhanás… (Endless Fall…) explores the full sonic range of the organ and challenges the soloist to push the limits of human capacity to the extreme.
