Superstars of the Violin - Augustin Hadelich & Francesco Piemontesi Chamber Recital
5 February 2025, 07:30 pm.
Liszt Academy - Grand Hall
1061 Budapest, Liszt Ferenc tér 8.
The Grammy-winning American-German violin virtuoso Augustin Hadelich and his chamber partner, the Swiss pianist-phenomenon Francesco Piemontesi, will be performing an unusual French programme at the Liszt Academy. The concert will begin with a movement by Nicolas de Grigny, former organist of Reims Cathedral, as a prelude to Claude Debussy's final work, the bittersweet Sonata for Violin and Piano in G minor. A harpsichord piece by Jean-Philippe Rameau is set to Francis Poulenc's lesser-known sonata, also written during the Second World War, which has a tragic tone. The main feature of the second half is a deservedly evergreen sonata by César Franck. But the prelude here is not by a Baroque composer, or even a French one. It is the work of a Hungarian who has an intimate relationship with both the Baroque musical heritage and French culture: the almost centenarian György Kurtág.
