Marcell Vámos was born in 1976 in Budapest. He grew up in a family of musicians. His mother was the bassist of the former Postás Symphony Orchestra. His father was a clarinettist in the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera House. He graduated from the Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music in 1995 and continued his studies at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. He graduated as a cellist in 2001 as a student of Csaba Onczay.
