János Láposi was born in Berettyóújfalu on 27 July 1954. He started his viola studies in Zoltán Kodály Conservatory in Debrecen and finished in Béla Bartók Conservatory, Budapest in 1972. He recived his diploma in the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in the class of János Székács and Zoltán Tóth in 1979.

He was a member of the Symphony Orchestra of Hungarian Radio from 1981 to 1995, and the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera House from 1995 to 1998.

At present he is a viola teacher of the Musical Faculty of Széchenyi University, Győr and the Béla Bartók Béla Conservatory, Budapest and also a part time teacher of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest. János Láposi has been a member of Budapest Strings since 1982.
