Opera singer (soprano), Kossuth Prize winner, Merited Artist.
She started her music studies at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music (1968-1973) as pupil of dr. Jenő Sipos, and in 1974 she undertook further studies at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, being student of Gianna Pederzini. Later her master was Júlia Orosz. Since 1973 she has been soloist of the Hungarian State Opera House. She debuted in the role of Zerlina (Mozart: Don Giovanni) and soon she became the leading soprano of the theater, being successful in opera roles of Mozart and Puccini.
In the late ’70s and the early ’80s she played major roles in the Verdi-cycle conducted by Lamberto Gardelli. Some of these performances were recorded by Hungaroton. She has sung in numerous big opera houses of the world, like the Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro La Fenice (Venice), Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Liceo (Barcelona), Teatro Colon (Buenos Aires). She performed in the opera houses of Boston, Montreal and San Francisco, in Chicago, the Lincoln Center, the Carnegie Hall, the Royal Festival Hall (London), in Hong Kong, Singapore, Israel and at the festivals in Athens, Thessalonica and New York (Bard Festival).
At the world premiere of Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle in Ankara (Turkey) she sang the role of Judit. She worked with Giuseppe Patané, Lamberto Gardelli, Antal Doráti, Peter Maag, Ádám Fischer, Iván Fischer, Zoltán Peskó, Eliahu Inbal, Jurij Szimonov, Gianandrea Gavanezzi, etc.
Veronika Kincses has sung a lot of opera roles at world premieres and recorded many solo albums, too. Her major roles are: Susanna, Countess (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro), Fiordiligi (Mozart: Cosí fan tutte), Mimi (Puccini: La boheme), Manon Lescaut (Puccini), Norma (Bellini), Liu (Puccini: Turandot), Elvira (Verdi: Ernani), Sister Angelica (Puccini), Amelia Grimaldi (Verdi: Simon Boccanegra), Zerlina, Donna Elvira (Mozart: Don Giovanni), Micaela (Bizet: Carmen), Eva (Wagner: Die Meistersänger von Nürnberg), Madama Butterfly (Puccini), Leonora (Verdi: La forza del destino), Vitellia (Mozart: La clemenza di Tito), Adriana Lecouvreur (Cilea), Judit (Bartók: Bluebeard’s Castle).
She was leading professor of the Singing Department of the Music Institute at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pécs. She owns many international record grand prizes – in 1984 the Opera House nominated her recording as Madama Butterfly for the Album of the Year.
Veronika Kincses was awarded with the Liszt Prize (1978), the Mihály Székely Memorial Plaque (1979), the Kossuth Prize (1980), the title Merited Artist (1988), the Erzsébet Prize (1990) and the EmeRTon Prize (1999).
