Eckhardt Gábor

Born in 1957 in Budapest, Gábor Eckhardt started to play the piano at the age of eight. Following his studies at the Béla Bartók Musical Secondary School with Edit Hambalkó, he was admitted to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music where he learned with Sándor Falvai and György Kurtág. In 1980 he won lst Prize at the Dohnányi Piano Competition of the Academy, followed by two years of postgraduate studies at the Tchaikovsky Music Academy of Moscow with Dmitry Bashkirov. A committed propagator of contemporary music, Gábor Eckhardt gives annually some 25-30 concerts. Recipient of the Hungarian "Artisjus" Prize for his work in disseminating modern music, in 1996 he was also awarded with the Liszt Prize. He is founding member of the "Intermoduláció" Chamber Group and, together with András Horn (clarinet) and György Déri (cello), of the Trio d'Echo formation.
