Péter Bársony was born in Budapest in 1975. He graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in 2000. His masters were Ferenc Balogh, Ferenc Rados, György Konrád, Dénes Kovács, György Kurtág, Dénes Zsigmondy, Pinchas Zukerman, Zoltán Tóth, Gerard Caussé.
Mr. Bársony gives regularly concerts all over the world. His chamber partners include Márta Gulyás, Péter Csaba, Zoltán Kocsis, Péter Nagy, Rivka Golani, Andreas Frölich,Vilmos Szabadi, Kristóf Baráti, Barnabás Kelemen, Wolfgang Schröder, Dezső Ránki, Lajos Lencsés, Ramón Jaffé, László Hadady, Juliana Steinbach, András Adorján, Gergely Ittzés, Miklós Perényi, István Várdai, David Grimal, among others.
He participates in prestigious internatonal festivals (such as Santander, Ravinia Festival, Amadeo, Mostly Mozart, Schubertiada, Brionnais) He presents contemporary pieces several times a year. He frequently works with György Kurtág, Péter Eötvös, Sofia Gubaidulina, Fabiano Panisello, and Steve Reich. Composers as Tamás Beischer-Matyó, Marcell Dargay, Péter Durkó, Levente Gyöngyösi, Máté Hollós, Balázs Horváth, László Tihanyi, Péter Tornyai, Gergely Vajda dedicated contemporary viola works to him.
He was the founding member of the Akadémia and Somogyi String Quartets, was member of the Keller String Quartet and he has been solo viola player of the Concerto Budapest since 2000. He has been invited as a guest principal violist to several great orchestras like Budapest Festival Orchestra, Osaka Century Orchestra. In 2004-2005 he was holder of the Annie Fischer Grant.
He has been teaching since 2004. Between 2004-2006 he taught compulsory viola at Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. Since 2007 he has been member of the UMZE (Chamber Ensemble for Contemporary Music). He holds masterclass frequently, he has been invited to Trinity College, London, Tihany Summer Masterclass, Hungary or Bard College, New York.
As a soloist he has been invited to wellknown orchestras like Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, American Symphony Orchestra, Erkel Chamber Orchestra, Hungarian Radio Orchestra or Hungarian Symphony Orchestra. Several cd recordings with him have appeared on Hungaroton label. Most of the CDs contain world premier recordings. Among his other cds Péter Bársony has recorded the Viola Concerto and Fusions of Ödön Pártos, complete duos for violin and viola of Joseph Haydn and Carl Stamitz with Vilmos Szabadi. On his latest released cd in 2010 he performs the complete works for viola of the famous hungarian violinist and composer Jenő Hubay including the Concerto for viola and orchestra.
In 2013 he will debut in Carnegie Hall with the American Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Leon Botstein.
