Her career began as a member of the Budapest Madrigal Choir. Having graduated at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music she was engaged by the Hungarian State Opera in 1973, where she was a leading mezzo-soprano for long time. Her major roles include Orfeo, Cherubino, Dorabella, Marina (Boris Godunov), Adalgisa, Erda Zamira (II turco in Italia), Eboli, Cenerentola, Carmen, Judit (The Bluebeards Castle) And Charlotte (Werher). Ms. Takács is one of the most outstanding oratorio singers of Budapest performances, and frequently appears also in Lieder-programmes. Her fame has spread abroad, and she has appeared in many great opera houses including the New York Metropolitan, Carnegie Hall, Staatsoper (Wien), etc. A series of succesful Hungaroton releases starred Klára Takács. Her recordings have been awarded internationally.
