Katalin Farkas first studied the piano and then the flute only switching to singing later. Ms. Farkas was admitted to the opera department at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 1980, becoming a member of the Hungarian State Opera after graduation. Her roles include Rosina in Il barbiere de Siviglia, Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Lola in Cavalleria rusticana, Frasquita in Carmen, Xenia in Boris Godunov and a Flower Girl in Parsifal. She also took part in major TV productions. Katalin Farkas was invited to the Glyndebourne Festival in 1985 to sing the role of Zdenka in Richard Strauss opera Arabella, then was cast as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier at a Budapest revival. Her Hungaroton records feature Carissimi oratorios, Brockes Passion by Handel, La serva padrona by Pergolesi and Don Sanche by Liszt. She was the successful protagonist of Handels Atalanta in the world premičre recording of the opera. In 1987 she sang one of the leading roles of Il Pastor fido at Händel-Festspiele in Göttingen.
