Harpist Éva Maros was born on February 9, 1946, in Pécs into a family of musicians; her father was composer Rudolf Maros, her mother was violinist Klára Molnár, and her brother is composer Miklós Maros, who lives in Sweden.
She began her harp studies between 1960 and 1964 at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest under Henrik Rohmann, then continued at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music as a student of Hédi Lubik starting in 1964. Her chamber music teachers were András Mihály and György Kurtág. She received her diploma in 1972. Even while still a student, from 1968 through 1973, she was a member of the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1973 she was a guest artist with the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra. In 1974 she became the principal harpist of the Hungarian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra. In 1991 she joined the EAR Ensemble.
Beginning in 1987 she regularly organized joint chamber music evenings with trumpeter György Geiger. They made several recordings together. Several contemporary Hungarian composers dedicated works to her (e.g., Máté Hollós: Silent Trumpet Music with Harp / Frigyes Hidas: Concerto for Harp / István Láng: Double Concerto).
Éva Maros passed away on March 25, 2026, at the age of 80.
