József Mukk graduated from the Franz Liszt Music College in 1991 and then undertook further studies at the Vienna Music Academy with Walter C. Moore. In 1989 he was placed third at both the Graz Schubert Song Competition and the Velentino Bucchi Competition in Rome. Since 1991, he has been a solo singer at the Hungarian State Opera House. In 1992 he won the Bartók-Pásztory prize. His leading roles have been primarily in Mozart (Tamino, Don Ottavio, Titus, Belmonte) but József Mukk is also at home in Italian lyric opera (Verdi, Donizetti). He works all over Europe and has made numerous recordings for Hungarian, German and Italian record companies. He has worked with such conductors as Yehudi Menuhin, Helmuth Rilling, Zoltán Peskó, Rico Saccani, Zoltán Kocsis, Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, Yuri Simonov and Tamás Vásáry.
