Geiger György was born in 1944 in Homokmégy. After finishing his studies at the Secondary School of Music, he graduated from the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music with an artist-teacher degree at the age of 23. Meanwhile at the age of 20 he became the first trumpeter of the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera, where he played for four years. Since 1969 he has been solo trumpeter at the Budapest Symphony Orchestra. In 1975 he formed the Modern Brass Ensemble, and won an international competition in Ancona. Mr. Geiger started teaching at the teacher training faculty of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in 1979. His first solo album Playing With The Trumpet appeared in 1986, then the second one, featuring classical concertos and chamber music pieces, in 1990. Performed and recorded a number of trumpet concertos written for him by Endre Székely, Ervin Jereb, Frigyes Hidas, Kamilló Lendvay, László Dubrovay, Emil Petrovics, Pál Rózsa, Miklós Sugár, Miklós Malek. Mr.Geiger has received several awards, like the Ferenc Liszt Award (1980), the Artisjus Award (1983, 1992, 1994, 1996), eMeRTon Award for The Outstanding Radio Recording Of The Year (1977), Inter-Lyra Prize (1998), Dohnányi Prize as Budapest Symphony Orchestra´s Musician Of The Year (1999), Freeman Of The City at his place of residence, Soroksár (1996), Merited Artist (2000), Kossuth Prize (2009).
