He started his music studies with János Scholz and Pál Hütter. In 1942 he graduated at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music Budapest, where his masters were Leó Weiner, Jenő Kerpely and Imre Waldbauer.
Between 1940 and 1951 he was cellist of the Municipal Orchestra (now called Hungarian National Philharmonic), and of the Radio Orchestra between 1951 and 1953. Meanwhile, hes been member of the Tátrai String Quartet. In 1946 he came in fourth place at the international music contest of Genf.
He started to teach at the Music Academy from 1948, teaching chamber music since 1950. Later he became head of department there. He was jury member of numerous international contests. He had successful concerts in Berlin, Dresden, Weimar, England, the USSR, Japan and the Canarian Islands.
