József Csapó began his musical studies in his hometown, Székesfehérvár at the age of 10. He "learned" the love for singing in choir from conductor Károly Lovrek with whom he experienced what it felt like to be on the top of a chorus contest (Debrecen 1986). Later, he became a real musician under conductors like, Gábor Ugrin, Aurél Tillai, and Éva Kollár, with whom he presently sings in Monteverdi Choir.
He graduated in 1997, from JPU of Pécs (now University of Pécs), majoring in music. Through his teacher, Gabriella Jani, he was the first to give graduation concert as counter-tenor in 1996. He has twice attended the master-course of Alaister Thomson, former King's Singers member. He regularly sings solo in Baroque oratoric pieces all over the country, and he has also sung in France and Holland.
Currently he works in the Hungarian National Choir.
The most significant works in his career so far: J.S. Bach: St. John Passion, Handel: Messiah (conducted by Howard Williams), Handel: Messiah (Gábor Hollerung), Purcell: Hail, Bright Cecilia (Valér Jobbágy), Bach: Magnificat in Es-major (Soma Dinyés), M. Haydn: Cantatas (Peter Scholz/Holland) - he took part in the CD recording of the latter two pieces.
