Gabor was born in 1981 in Budapest, started studying classical music on clarinet from the age of 8. He first played guitar when he was 16, later he began to study jazz music at Erkel Ferenc Music School with Miklos Birta and Gabor Juhasz, going on studying at the jazz faculty of Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music with Gyula Babos and Sandor Horanyi. After his graduation in 2008 he moved to Amsterdam to do his master studies at Conservatorium van Amsterdam, having Maarten van der Grinten, Jesse van Ruller, and Martijn van Iterson as teachers.

During this period in Holland he had the chance to study ocassionally with Peter Bernstein, Jonathan Kreisberg, John Clayton and he also spent a short period in Paris studying with Nelson Veras.

He began to perform his own music in 2006. Two years later he won the special prize for best composition on the International Kodolanyi Jazz Competition and the following year he has been awarded with the prestigious Hungarian Lakatos Ablakos Dezso Jazz Performer Scholarship.

His music has developed under influences of modern Europian improvisative music, indian music, classical and contemporary music, and jazz. At the moment he plays his own music with two bands. The Budapest based Aved-Csongradi Quartet consists of Janos Aved on saxophone, Akos Benko on drums, Marton Soos on bass, the Gabor Csongradi Quintet is based in Amsterdam with Daniel Mester on saxophone, Sri Hanuraga on piano, Benedek Kiss on bass, and Philippe Lemm on drums.
