Viktória Mester was born in Mezőtúr. She studied solfeggio, music theory and voice at the Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music, Békéscsaba. In 1996 she was admitted to Mária Toldy's musical studio where her singing teacher was Judit Kővári.
A year later she joined the Choir of the Hungarian Radio, and in 1997-98 she sang in the National Choir. She worked with such outstanding masters as Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro, Zoltán Kocsis and György Solti.
In 1998, she was admitted to the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music Budapest, where she studied with Éva Andor then from 2002 under Balázs Kovalik in the opera department. She was a permanent guest singer of the Miskolc National Theatre for four seasons, where she sang among others the title role of Carmen, and Nicklausse in Les contes d'Hoffmann. She made her debut in the Hungarian State Opera House in October 2006 in the role of Maddalena in Rigoletto. Here she also enjoyed a great success as Carmen.
At the Miskolc Opera Festival she sang the role of Olga (Tchaikovsky: Onegin), and at the Szentendre Arts Days the role of Phaedra (Rameau: The Triumph of Artemis). She has also sung Marcellina (The Marriage of Figaro) and the Mother in Hansel and Gretel. At the Spring Festival she sang in Verdis Alzira.
