Gátos Bálint

Bálint Gátos was born on 15 November 1975 in Budapest. Bass guitarist, composer, producer and translator. He studied classical piano for six years before taking up bass guitar, his interest gradually turned to jazz. He studied bass guitar on his own, and in addition to his musical career he graduated from the Károli Gáspár Reformed University, first with a degree in English philology, then in arts administration and arts management. His brother Iván Gátos is a keyboard player, with whom they play in the Váczi Eszter Quartet (since the mid-2000s) and in Eszter Váczi's other band Szörp, and he is also bassist in CéAnne, Kakadu and Bölöömbika, and composer, producer and bassist in Busho Venus. He has performed in several formations. He is the eponymous and founding member of the band Up! He has also played in the bands Tramps, Nomad and Warpigs, and has performed with such renowned artists as Eszter Bartók, Adrien Szekeres, Ibolya Oláh, Eszter Váczi.
He was awarded with Artisjus Prize in 2024 December.
