She was born in Budapest, and studied singing at Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. She was a soloist with the Szeged National Theatre between 1984 and 1988. She debuted at the Opera House in the role of Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte. From 1988 she worked for the Bonn Opera House, and was a soloist with the Budapest Opera House between 2004 and 2008.
At the beginning of her career she sang coloratura soprano roles (Donizetti: Lucia di Lammermoor - title role, Verdi: Rigoletto - Gilda), and later switched to character roles (Mozart: Così fan tutte - Despina). The Opera House premiered Iván Madarász's one-act opera The Last Waltz with Ildikó Iván in the title role, and she also sang the role of the Wife in Emil Petrovics's C'est la guerre.
