Liszt Ferenc Zeneművészeti Egyetem Zenekara (Orchestra of Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music)
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
Formed
1875
The Academy, founded by Ferenc Liszt in 1875, is the highest institution of music education in Hungary. Many of its ex-students and present teachers have become prominent figures of music life throughout the world. As the countrys institution providing the highest level of music education, it is expected to develop not only the individual instrumental skills of the students but also their ability to play chamber and symphonic music. To this end, every student takes part in 10-12 orchestral productions throughout his/her time at the academy, in both the intense preparatory phase and the public concert. Apart from compulsory studies, many students are also involved in other ensembles, international youth orchestras and thus attain a thorough orchestral experience. At present, guided by András Ligeti, the orchestra has recently given several concerts upon the request of the National Philharmony and recorded Liszt: Faust Symphony on the Naxos label. They have been involved in the Budapest Spring Festival, and was invited to a three-week tour of France in 1996.
