Váczi Dániel Trió
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
Dániel Váczi was born in 1972. He played the violin for ten years, then at the age of 17 he started studying the alto saxophone. Subsequently he also took up the rarely used sopranino saxophone. He attended the Jazz Department of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music for a year. In the autumn of 2001 he founded his trio playing original compositions with bassist Balázs Horváth and drummer Zsolt Sárvári Kovács, who has since been replaced by András Mohay. Their music is characterized by large-scale improvisations wedged between strictly composed themes; stylistically a certain amalgam of modern jazz and contemporary music. Their debut album can be expected to appear in 2005. Váczi has played and recorded with famous figures of Hungarian jazz and avant-garde music, and has composed a piece for Gábor Winands latest, award winning album, Different Garden. Sárvári Kovács will temporarily return to join the trio at the festival.
