Mendelssohn Kamarazenekar (Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra)
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
Formed
1985
The orchestra was formed in 1985 from young musicians in Veszprém, Hungary. Their repertoire ranges from the generally played works for chamber orchestras through the contemporary music to the jazz. Having recorded their first CD Mendelssohn Concertos they decided to change the orchestras name to Mendelssohn as they were impressed by the fantastically talented young Mendelssohns music. Since then they have been paying his string symphonies and early concertos as often as possible. It was the orchestra itself who decided to select the harder way to the concert stage, so a big systematic work proceeded their first concerts, and even their all other concerts later. Their most important intention is the spontaneously natural way of music making, and they emphasize on the clear articulation and on their own sonority. They work together with great soloists as Zoltán Kocsis, Miklós Perényi, István Ruha (Kolozsvár), Kálmán Berkes and János Bálint. The orchestra is playing together with fine jazz musicians with great pleasure, so they could perform in Paris the Mass of the well-known French jazz pianist and composer Jaques Loussier, and other performances together with the American jazz clarinet player, Joe Murányi. They play regularly in England, Germany, France and in Slovenia. The orchestra made several CD-s, and their concerts are broadcasted by the Hungarian and other radio and TV stations.
