Musica Nostra Énekegyüttes (Musica Nostra Choir)
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
Formed
1994
Muisica Nostra Vocal Ensemble was formed in 1994, from students of the Department of Music at the Eötvös Loránd University of Sciences, which has been the host institution of the choir ever since. At present, several of the 22 singers are still at the university, others have already graduated from higher education. The main aims of the female chorus include the high quality interpretation and popularization of early and contemporary music. In the past couple of years, they have often given concerts as a mixed chorus, too. Since its foundation, Musica Nostra Vocal Ensemble has won prestigious awards at international competitions of the highest rank, such as Arezzo (Italy), Tours (France), Marktoberdorf (Germany), Maribor (Slovenia), Debrecen and Budapest.
Their repertoire includes compositions of renaissance masters, classical and romantic masterpieces, together with the greatest creations of Hungarian music, and representative works of present-day contemporary music. They have performed and recorded world premieres of numerous compositions. The ensemble has already made three CD-recordings. A collection of contemporary music was published by Hungaroton in 1998. Allegro published an anthology of choral works from different periods in 1999. The third recording features pieces by the German composer Georg Hilfrich, also published by Allegro in 2001.
The accompanist of the ensemble is Gábor Bodnár, assistant head of department at the Department of Music at ELTE. Besides being an accompanist, he works as a composer and teacher of musical theory as well. The ensemble was founded by Zsuzsánna Mindszenty, conductor and artistic director, a professor at the Department of Music at ELTE, co-chairperson of the Association of Hungarian Choirs and Orchestras. She has twice received the Artisjus Award, and in 2003 she received the Ferenc Liszt Award.
