Borbély Műhely
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
The Mihály Borbély Quartet (in Hungarian: 'Borbély Műhely', which translates as 'Barber's Shop') was founded three years ago by Mihály Borbély, who is eaqually versatile in folk and world music, in jazz and contemporary music. His partners share a spirit and taste akin to Borbély's. The improvisational music they play is an amalgam of various styles of jazz and the music heritage of the Carpathian-Basin and the Balkans saturated with interesting melodic variations, finely transparent and at the same time powerful rhythmic patterns. Their present line-up features Borbély on wind instruments, Gábor Cseke on piano Balázs Horváth on bass, and István Baló on drums. They frequently welcome guest artist Miklós Lukács on cimbalom.
