Bánlaky Ákos
Composer
The Vienna-based composer (born in 29 January 1966) studied choral conducting at the Liszt Academy and composition at the Bartók Conservatory. In 1991, at the age of 25, he moved to Vienna, where he completed his studies in composition in 1991-98 at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna in the composition class of Prof. Kurt Schwertsik. He was also employed as a singer. He still sings in various opera choirs and small vocal ensembles. He studied for two years with the Hungarian composer Iván Erőd in Vienna. Ethnomusicological research trips to Cameroon, Venezuela, Ethiopia, Irian Jaya, Gabon, Papua New Guinea etc. From 2017 curation of the concert series “Lebenszeichen” at the Carinthischer Sommer Festival, as well as curation of concerts in the Roter Salon, Vienna, at the Master Classes Gutenstein and others. At the invitation of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs programming at various cultural forums (London, Budapest, New York, etc.).
He composed among others 6 operas, around 150 songs, 15 „Liedphantasien“, an oratorio, orchestral and chamber music are performed throughout Europe.

2007 annual grant from the Federal Chancellery for the opera Cyrano
