As pupil of Albert Siklós he graduated at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music Budapest, where he studied composing. Parallel to this, he also studied aesthetics, philosophy and pedagogy at the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University. He wrote his thesis on the oeuvre of Claude Debussy.
From 1939 to 1944 he managed and conducted factory choirs. In 1943-1944 he was music editor of the Hungarian Radio and from 1945 he’s been deputy manager of the music department for a while. Afterwards he temporarily worked as weaver.
From 1947 he taught composing and music theory in the Upper Music School of the Capital City, and after its closing-down in the State Conservatory (now: Béla Bartók Secondary School for Music) from 1949. Besides, he also taught at the Federation of Music Schools of Budapest.
His organ work Epilogue, written on the theme B-A-C-H, was awarded with first prize in Vercelli (1957). He translated Debussy’s Pelléas and Mélisande, but many songs as well.
