(Prä)modern+ Concerts: Trio Classicus, Eszter Kökény and Souhei Yamagami
27 May 2026, 06:00 p.m.
FUGA Budapest Center of Architecture
1052 Budapest, Petőfi Sándor utca 5.
Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 1, composed in 1908 but premiered only after his death, was inspired by the violinist Stefi Geyer, for whom his love remained unrequited. Unusually, the concerto consists of two movements: the movements portray the artist like a portrait, in two different lights.
György Ligeti’s 11-movement cycle for piano, Musica ricercata, is built gradually from the notes of the chromatic scale in such a way that it uses two notes in the first movement, three in the second, and then every note of the scale in the final movement. The concert will feature a string trio arrangement of the work, transcripted by Péter Tornyai.
Bartók’s composition will be performed by Eszter Kökény and Souhei Yamagami, and in the second half of the concert, Musica ricercata by the Classicus Trio.
