Organ in the Centre - Balázs Szabó
13 May 2025 7.30 pm.
Liszt Academy - Grand Hall
1061 Budapest, Liszt Ferenc tér 8.
Balázs Szabó has been shaping the new generation of Hungarian organists since 2011, and he has also led organology courses at the Liszt Academy. The instrument of the Great Hall, Hungary's largest Romantic-style organ and also the largest historical organ, is shining in its former glory again thanks to the reconstruction work he led. It's no exaggeration to say that Szabó knows all the secrets of the instrument and will use all its capabilities in his forthcoming recital. The repertoire ranges from the 17th to the 20th century. In addition to Johann Sebastian Bach, the Baroque period will be represented by the slightly earlier Juan Bautista Cabanilles. But it's also a good place to include the late Romantic Max Reger, whose style draws heavily on Bach's musical legacy. There will also be a three-movement suite by Maurice Duruflé and works by two former students and teachers at the Academy of Music, Dezső Antalffy-Zsiross and György Ligeti.
