DLA DOCTORAL CONCERT BY BÁLINT BARÁTH

17 May 2024. 7:00 pm
Budapest Music Center - Library
1093 Budapest, Mátyás utca 8.

"This concert is an important event in the conclusion of my doctoral studies and a starting point for new and exciting adventures in composition. During my studies I have been exploring the musical implications of chaos theory. These impulses help to create the first and third pieces performed in this concert.
The new work (Lukash), for shakuhachi and electronic solo, employs Lindenmayer's systems. I dedicated a part of my thesis to the Lindenmayer systems, and their inspiring influence has been part of my everyday life ever since. I am grateful to István Matuz for helping me in every possible way to create this piece.
Dakapi was written for the excellent Trio Dakoda, who contributed greatly to the creation of the piece with their dedicated and patient approach. They also gave a lot of advice and actively contributed to the final shape of the piece. The composition draws on the musical world of the Central African tribal tradition.
The multi-channel electronic work Mariposa (Butterfly) maps the movement forms of natural phenomena into musical space. The movement of particles, falling leaves, the passage of wind, among others, are some of my starting points.
Prior to the concert at 5:45 pm I will give an introductory lecture on compositional techniques." (Bálint Baráth)
