Transparent Sound New Music Festival 2025: Monochrome Project - Drums & Trumpets

The Transparent Sound New Music Festival and the House of Music Hungary brings together two ensembles consisting of members playing the same instruments. The Dakoda, formed by up-and-coming young Hungarian percussionists already familiar to the Festival's audience, and the eight trumpet players of The Monochrome Project from Cologne, will perform rarely heard, monumental curiosities of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

The evening is guaranteed to be a lively one, not only in terms of content: the artists will play their instruments in a variety of positions in the Concert Hall (and even the Lobby) of the House, often changing location while performing, accompanied by live video projection. The audience thus will be treated to a real spatial experience of music. The works are very different in origin and character: the ancient nature music of Rolf Wallin recalling Norwegian folk horns, Enno Poppe's highly energetic piece for solo drum kit, Elnaz Seyedi's meditative trumpet sounds, Vito Zuraj's humorous trio played with spoons on tiny percussion instruments, and the intimate funeral music of the great French twentieth-century giant Gérard Grisey all offer a very exciting and varied sonic palette. The concert concludes with Márton Illés' new work „Réz-tér“ (Brass Space), a piece lasting over half an hour while exploring all the sounding possibilities of the trumpets, letting them move in space, representing a rich and powerful musical world.

From 6PM the concert will be preceded by a one-hour artist talk with the curators of the Transparent Sound Festival, composer Márton Illés and the performers themselves, giving an introduction to the concert program. The talk can be attended free of charge for those with a ticket to the concert.
