4x4 – Young String Quartets in Focus: Chaos String Quartet
11 April 2026, 07:00 p.m.
Liszt Academy - Solti Hall
1061 Budapest, Liszt Ferenc tér 8.
Formed in Vienna in 2019, the Chaos String Quartet brings together musicians from Germany, Hungary, Italy, and the Netherlands, who have quickly risen to prominence on the international chamber music scene. Their artistry has been recognized with numerous awards, including honors at the 2021 Bartók World Competition. The quartet’s repertoire places strong emphasis on 20th-century modernism and 21st-century contemporary music, and in recent years several composers have written and dedicated new works to them. Yet, the ensemble is equally committed to making the string quartet a form that speaks not only to connoisseurs. Their latest program, inspired by their name, explores “musical creation stories” and seeks to unify these two ambitions. The daring lineup juxtaposes the “composed turbulence” found in works by Haydn, Rebel, Ligeti, and Rameau with the structural clarity of Bach and Beethoven’s fugues, and culminates in Samu Gryllus’s 5 Transitions for Chaos String Quartet.
The date of the Chaos String Quartet concert has been changed from March 27, 2026 to April 11.
